In neuroscience, genetic analysis is essential for targeting individual neuron types and revealing the neural circuit basis of behavior. As one of the core facilities of the Chinese Institute for Brain Research (CIBR), the Genetic Manipulation Core is mainly responsible for generating gene-edited model animals.

Genetic Manipulation Core has successfully established gene manipulation platform for mouse. Knock-out, knock-in and site-specific transgenic mice can be generated by electroporation or microinjection with the help of CRISPR/Cas system. Gene editing platforms for rat and other model animals are under construction. Meanwhile, Genetic Manipulation Core provides the related molecular biology service, including the design and synthesis of gene specific guide RNA for CRISPR/Cas system, the design and generation of the insertion plasmids, the genotyping, et al. In addition, Genetic Manipulation Core intends to develop new techniques and strategies to improve the efficiency of gene editing and generate tool mice base on the research directions of CIBR.

The Genetic Manipulation Core aims to establish an efficient and versatile gene manipulation facility that can provide high-quality technique support and service for all CIBRers.
